Shinshin Program

Temple Israel will continue our partnership with the Sid Jacobson JCC and other area institutions in bringing the “Shinshinim,” or literally, young Israelis engaged in a “year of service.” The “Shinshin,” (young person) is specially trained through the Jewish agency and spends a pre-army year in the United States.  At Temple Israel, our “Shinshin” will engage our Religious School & Youth House Program with hands-on engaging Israel experiences. We will be able to nurture personal connections to Israel through our Shinshin.

Are you able and willing to open your home (and your heart) to a Shinshin, who will become part of your family?  We are actively seeking families who are willing and able to embrace a “Shinshin” for approximately 4 months. (Please note: Shinshinim will have their own cars and cell phones, provided by the Jewish agency.)

To become a host family or to find out how you help, please contact Connie Reicman, Director of Education at creichman@tign.orgr or call (516) 482-7800 ext. 1110.
